Daemon the 7DRL
I'm going to be entering this year's 7DRL, starting this forthcoming weekend, writing Daemon from scratch using Libtcod and C++. What is Daemon? According to its description over at the 7DRL blog its:
Occult-themed rogue-like symbolising a journal through the Qlippoth (the dark side of the Tree of Life) using the dark arts of the Goetia to gain power and to know thyself.I'll update this blog with progress reports as the week progresses.

Stygia completed
Well, I did it. I finished coding a roguelike, finally.
More details over at the Stygia blog.
I even looked at the Kharne code today. Its not as bad as I feared, even if it isn't C#. I should really implement potions, shouldn't I?

7DRLs
This year's 7DRL has just started. What is a 7DRL?
A Seven Day Roguelike is a roguelike created in seven days. This means the author stopped writing code one hundred and sixty eight hours after they started writing code.Already there are quite a few entries. Good luck to all the developers taking part, and I hope to review some of the entries when they are done.

News and Updates
There's going to be one more interim Alpha 1 release for Kharne, which will try and fix a possible problems with fonts that has been reported.
Following the comments in this post, I'm going to start work on an equivalent of a 7DRL (albeit over a longer period) in C#, mainly to learn the language. Don't worry, Kharne will not suffer from this, but it will be a platform for seeing how C# compares to Delphi.
The title?

7DRL
This year's 7DRL is coming up soon, and whilst I'd love to take part (and I have an excellent idea), I've decided not to start a new project.
However.
Instead, I'm going to work hard during those 7 days to get Kharne into a releasable state and then release an Alpha version (probably 0.0.1).
It won't be actually playable (it will be more like an interactive demo), but it is something.
And something is definitely better than nothing. And feedback on even what I've done so far is crucial.

7DRL and Cosmology
This year's 7DRL Challenge is fast approaching and I'm seriously interested in taking part. I have a (what I consider to be a) neat idea for a 7DRL that ties into my interests outside of programming. Any more than this, I'd rather not say at this moment. Although I considered writing it in a language other than Delphi, I'm going to stay with Delphi (for this one) and reuse some of the code I've already written for Kharne (e.g. FoV).
In other news, I've aquired a dead-tree version of the Manual of the Planes (an excellent tome, incidentally) and its quite alarming to see just how much the DnD Cosmology (here in its latest format) has influenced my vision for Kharne (the answer is, in case you are wondering, "a lot"). Not that this is a bad thing of course. Some of this perhaps is a legacy of the original Kharne being AD&D based, some of it because I've played the various incarnations of D&D for decades now. But it is interesting to step back occasionally and see how environmental and cultural influnces influence not only your own psychology but your output as well.
Of course, this may mean that, should Kharne ever get released and take off and turn into a multi-person effort, other people may have to suffer my idiosyncratic design desisions. Perhaps this a bridge best crossed whenever we come to it.
