Necrophilia

...or how I learned to love corpses.

...in a roguelike way, of course.

So, how should I handle monster corpses in Kharne? Should they be used for food, like in Crawl? How often should they drop? Should they be used for anything else?

Any thoughts?

Well, uses beyond food could definitely be interesting. As far as when to leave a corpse, maybe if the damage that kills the creature is well over what is necessary then you could assume the corpse was basically damaged beyond use?
Otherwise I'd always drop a corpse, doesn't make much sense not too, cept maybe for balance issue...

Make them always drop the corpse, they you balance thing out based on the number of corpses, the corpse itself.. using a random approach like adom can be highly frustrating for the player.

Cheers.

I like the Powder model: temporary boost/resistances. By making them not permanent they are more tactical and less scummy

I like temporary boosts/resistances combined with food. So, they're a food that either boosts you, or hurts you (if you get a poisonous corpse or something). The food value should be small, though.

I like a realistic model, where you can assemble useful things from a corpse, like fur or hide, except food, but it will make it more complicated. If you want make corpses as just food, maybe some kind of cooking over fire would be a nice addition?
